Whitnie Barnes 26 September 2016 Art 3460: Illustration The Mechanics of Visualizing As time goes on, the tools to make illustrations are modified and advanced. Artistic movements through history help us better understand the history of illustration in general. Though illustrators create art with a commercial purpose, etc. they are still advancing and changing expressive styles largely due to just advancements in technology and other innovations, but perhaps most importantly, the motivation to create something new and original. Through some experimentation and trial and error, the designer or illustrator will discover their style. Most of the time, less is more – leave some to the imagination. The most important thing to focus on is the message, yet you still want to your aesthetics and technique to be skillful. Work with different tools often and you’ll get better at “extracting images from your mind and successfully commit them to paper or screen.” The basis

A1 - What is Illustration?

This illustration was created by Sue Gent, who I discovered through the Association of Illustrators website. Gent has been commissioned by several nature and wildlife organizations to design illustrations for magazines covers and events which isn't surprising because animals and scenery in her work are common subjects. She also most likely used a vector image creation software like Adobe Illustrator to create this piece. She is based in Bristol and created this for a CD cover for a band called Doeray also based in the UK. Doeray's music is a mixture of different styles such as Indie, soul, blues and country, which in my opinion is becoming increasingly popular in our youth and pop culture. Moreover, the intended audience is most likely directed at young females partly because of the feminine colors and heart in the image, as well as the female vocalists. Whitnie Barnes 17 November 2016 Art 3460: Illustration Working as an Illustrator Having a business plan is important in guiding you to have an income-bringing business. A business plan should include an executive summary, a description of the business prospect, your marketing and sales approach, your management team and employees, your operations, and your financial predictions. An executive summary should be the last step of the business plan. It’s basically just a summary of that includes most of the other steps or aspects of your business plan. It’s a good tip to write the summary or outline as if you were writing it to someone who didn’t know a lot about illustration or design. It also should include an overview of your business and short explanation about what you offer.
